# Metadata and SEO

Every page has metadata fields that define some essential characteristics of a page/document. Some metadata is mandatory, and some are optional (defined in the Template Builder by an administrator). A developer can customize the metadata view to match your unique requirements. Below is an example of how the metadata view may look like. Mandatory fields are the following.

1. **Display Name:** Every document/page needs a name to function. This name is the one presented in the content list view. When using the search function within Strife, you will get a hit on this name (among many other fields). The display name will also be the slug for the page.
2. **Slug:** The slug is the ending of an URL. The slug is significant for getting a good SEO. Note that multiple changes of the slug are bad for SEO.
3. **Published Date:** This is the date and local time when the latest version of the page was published. You can set a publishing date and time by typing or choosing a date and time from the date picker to the right in the field.
4. **Label:** Labels are for internal and external use. Add tags to your pages to make them easier to find and sort in the Strife user interface. Labels are administrated in the team settings view.

Adding some fields to rank higher in search engines is recommended for better SEO. The most important fields are the following:

1. **Title:** The title is the heading that appears in search engines and is essential for SEO. Many SEOs and SEO websites recommend a title tag length of approximately 50 to 70 characters because that's what Google shows in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page).
2. **Description:** Search engines use descriptions as short summaries or elevator pitches. The description is shown in search results for that page if the search engine doesn't find other content more relevant to a visitor's search terms. The description is not included in the search engine algorithm, but the number of clicks from users is. If you compose a good description that gets many clicks, the search engine will rate your content higher. That's why descriptions are so important. Make sure to spend extra thought when giving the page a description. It will affect your conversion rate significantly!

If you are planning to share your content on social media, then you should consider adding the following:

1. OG-title for different social media
2. OG - description for different social media
3. OG-image with different resolutions for different social media.
