Roles and permissions
The four roles in Strife, Admin, Editor, Contributor and Viewer: what each can do, what happens when your role doesn't allow something, and who decides your role.
Everyone in a workspace has one of four roles. Your administrator decides which, and it applies in every team you belong to.
| Role | What the role can do |
|---|---|
Admin | Everything an editor can, and manage the workspace: its settings, integrations and members. |
Editor | Create and edit content, publish it, and archive or delete published pages. |
Contributor | Create and edit content, but not change what is on the website. |
Viewer | Look at content, without changing anything. |
A member who hasn't been given a role is an editor.
Contributors
A contributor can create pages, change their fields and labels, work with their languages, and discard changes. What is on the website is for an editor or an admin to change: a contributor can't publish or schedule a page, and can't archive or delete a page that is published, or restore an earlier version of it. A contributor can still archive and delete pages that have never been published.
When your role doesn't allow something, Studio tells you, for example "Contributors can create and edit content, but cannot publish it." Ask an editor or an administrator to publish for you.
Administrators
Only administrators can open the settings: the workspace's settings and members, and each team's settings, such as its languages, labels, templates and integrations. The menu items for them are only shown to administrators (see Find your way around Studio). Administrators also invite new members (see Get access to Strife). For administrators goes through the settings.
