What is Strife?
What Strife is: an editor-first headless CMS for your website, product data and media. How editing works with a live preview, and the key concepts this guide uses.
Strife is an editor-first headless CMS for content teams. You manage your website, product data and digital assets in one place, with AI to help you write, so everyday changes don't have to wait for a developer.
Headless means that your content lives in Strife and your website fetches it, whatever technology the website is built with. Studio, where you edit, is separate from the website. Strife can be updated without taking your website down, and one Studio can serve several websites.
How editing works
You edit a page in a form, the editor panel, beside a live preview of the page as your website shows it, in several screen sizes at once. The preview updates as you type, so there is no preview mode to switch to. See Canvas and Editor panel.
The fields come from the page's template, which your developer builds for your website. Each kind of page has the fields it needs.
From your website, the Edit in Strife toolbar takes you straight to the page you are looking at in Studio (see Open a page in Strife from your website). Nothing you change reaches the website until you publish.
Key concepts
- Workspace: your organization in Strife. It holds one or more teams. See Workspaces and teams.
- Team: the content of one website or app, with its own pages, templates, media and members. See Teams.
- Page or document: a piece of content, such as a web page, an article or a product. All of a team's documents are in the content list.
- Template: decides what kind of document a page is, which fields it has and where it can go. Your developer or administrator sets templates up.
- Origin: the page that a page sits under. See Compose a page and Move a page.
- Chapter: a section of a page, such as a hero or a block of text. See Chapters.
- Draft and published: your changes are saved as you work, and go live when you publish. See Lifecycle of a page.
- Languages: on a team with more than one language, a page has a version in each. See Languages and translation.
- Media library: the team's pictures, videos and files. See Media library.
- Strife Intelligence: AI that suggests alternative text for pictures, and titles and descriptions for search results, when your team has it turned on. See Working with pictures and Metadata and SEO.
