Compose a page
There are multiple ways to create a new page from scratch, but every page needs three things to function.
- Every page needs a parent. Choosing a parent appoints a logical place for the page you are to create. It defines the underlying hierarchy in Strife.
- Sometimes, you might wish to fetch content and publish it in multiple places on the website, or why not reuse the content on a different site or use it on a post on social media?
- The next thing you need to do is to choose a template. The template appoints the layout of the page and what content to be editable on the page.
- The last thing you need to do is to give the page a title. The title is just a name and helps you find the page when searching the document list. A well-formulated title will simplify finding the page/document in Strife.
Note! The hierarchy does not need to be the actual website hierarchy. It's quite common that you wish to create a navigation structure separated from the hierarchy inside of Strife.
For time-saving, Strife will help you by pre-populating the parent page and template if you compose a page from the content list. Clicking the three dots to the left of a document/page in the document list will open a menu that gives you the needed help.
- Hover over the Compose button.
- Choose the template you wish to use.

Compose a page/document using a template
By using this way to create a page, you only need to give the document/page a title, and then you are good to go.

Give the document a name
You might add some labels to make the page easier to find and use, but it´s not mandatory. You can always add labels later if you wish. Read more about labels in the label chapter.
When the template knows its parent
A template can declare which kind of page its documents belong under — a blog post under the blog page, for example — or one specific page. (Developers set this with from in the template definition.) When you compose such a page, the origin field follows that rule:
- If exactly one page matches, it is already selected.
- If several match, the origin list and its search show only those pages.
- If none exists yet, the field works as usual, and a hint tells you which kind of page is expected — or, when the template names a specific page that is not in this workspace, which page it looked for.
Composing from a row's Compose menu keeps that row as the parent only when it matches the rule, and the menu only offers templates that may be placed under that row.
